Do you know the “Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” song? You should! This is a very famous American poem created by an advertising executive by the name of Robert May. In 1939, Mr. May was tasked to come up with a catchy poem to give away at Chicago-based Montgomery Ward department stores to the kids that came to see Santa Claus. Needless to say, this was a huge hit. The marketing results showed that they gave away almost 2.5 million poems the first year.
This catchy poem loved by kids and parents alike was later recorded for a musical in 1949 by Gene Autry and composed by Johnny Marks.
Here is the lyrics to Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.
You know Dasher, and Dancer, and
Prancer, and Vixen,
Comet, and Cupid, and
Donder and Blitzen
But do you recall
The most famous reindeer of all
Rudolph, the red-nosed reindeer
had a very shiny nose.
And if you ever saw him,
you would even say it glows.
All of the other reindeer
used to laugh and call him names.
They never let poor Rudolph
join in any reindeer games.
Then one foggy Christmas Eve
Santa came to say:
“Rudolph with your nose so bright,
won’t you guide my sleigh tonight?”
Then all the reindeer loved him
as they shouted out with glee,
Rudolph the red-nosed reindeer,
you’ll go down in history!
